On the CW DVD the vocalists tend to be very still when singing. Even when they are moving it seems somewhat restrained (except Mairead of course). I know it is dangerous, but I assume that the singing posture where they look like their wrists might be velcroed to their clothes is part of classical training. It would lift the ribcage and allow the diaphragm to fully expand providing for greater breath control, etc. Also, I imagine they are taught not to "fidget" in any way that might distract from what they are singing. Since they all started as young children I can guess that this part was highly emphasized early on!
I mention this because during The Soft Goodbye Lisa, Chloe and Meav start to keep time to the music and "groove". They play off of each other much more obviously than in other ensemble numbers. When they finish you can tell they all had a good time singing the number but Chloe's face looks like she had an absolute blast. She is usually so carefully refined in everything you are allowed to see, when The Soft Goodbye plays I always walk over closer to see their faces and body language because Chloe in particular can't get the huge smile off her face. They do such a great job on the song and finish with some tricky harmony sung at the top of their lungs. Lisa says in several interviews that a big deal was never made out of them blending their voices but this particular song shows what talented professionals can do almost inately as they hand the lead and the harmonies back and forth. It always makes me feel like I can go out and climb a mountain or something. And I feel absolutely certain they BELIEVE what they are singing.
Anyway, be sure and notice Chloe at the end of The Soft Goodbye.
